Editorial Reviews:

The BelOMO 10x21mm(0.85'') Triplet Loupe Magnifier has a viewing area of 0.65" (17mm), much larger than the Bausch & Lomb Hastings Triplet Magnifier (see the image with both loupes for a size comparison). The large 21mm (.85") 3 elements lens making up this achromatic triplet gathers lots of light to provide a bright, clear, and color correct view. The 10x power magnification provides the best magnification to depth of field ratio and is the most poplular power for a handheld magnifier. The housing and cover have a matte black finish for gem grading. Belarusian Optical and Mechanical Association (BelOMA), makers of telescopes, camera lenses, and other optical components manufacuturs these loupes. Highly recommended by the Amateur Geologist. This is the lens we use all the time. Don't let this price fool you. The BelOMO loupe is a FANTASTIC buy. These are optical quality lenses, each one inspected and certified just like a camera lens, that stand on their own against the higher priced competition. BelOMO loupes are assembled using screws rather than rivets which allows them to be adjusted. Every BelOMO loupe shipped by Amateur Geologist is custom treated to prevent the screws from coming loose with usage. Don't be fooled by cheap loupes selling for nearly the same price of MORE! Many don't even tell the manufacturer. Why? Because they're cheap imports from China, Japan, Tawain or elsewhere which typically cost less than a dollar at import. If you don't know the manufacturer how can you know the quality? Is each lens tested and does it include the certification just like a camera lens? The BelOMO does. Triplet means three lenses made of different types of optical glass bonded together and designed that, together, they straighten out the light that comes into the front of the loupe lens so that it's the same when it leaves. Cheap mport triplets are just three identical pieces of glass, not bonded, that distort the image.

Summary: The Belomo 10X Triplet- Two Years Later...
Comment: I use my Belomo loupe for nusmismatics, art and antiquities.

As others have said- shop for a better price. Unfortunately, the early days of $13 Belomo's are gone. Still, even at todays prices, there isn't a loupe at this price point that's anywhere in the same universe as the Belomo. Matter of fact, there are loupes that cost twice as much that are arguably inferior to the much cheaper Belomo.

I now use my Belomo loupe more than I do my (much more expensive) Nikon. Why? Simply put, in two years, I have yet to figure out what the Nikon does better than the Belomo. If the Nikon loupe does indeed do something better to justify its much higher price, it must be something done 'in theory' because in practice, the two are almost identical in terms of real world performance.

Improvements: The encasement construction isn't as robust as I'd like it to be. I actually wound up machining a new encasement hub out of solid aluminum for mine. Belomo could provide a solid encasement like mine for $3 or $4 added cost, which I'm sure would be greatly preferred and happily paid by the customers. If Belomo would do this, they would pretty much put all other Loupe makers out of business and cement their place as the best around... Also, the "crackle" paint finish isn't very durable over time.

Still, the Belomo loupe is one of those rare instances where you can lay a beat on 'the system' and actually get much more than you pay for. If you're searching for a loupe, your search just ended here. The ridiculously high optical quality you get in a Belomo loupe for a "flea market loupe" type price makes this a no-brainer.

Buy.

Summary: Look closely at this one!
Comment: I wanted a handheld magnifier for plant and insect identification and this BelOMO loupe exceeds my requirements. The field of view is indeed quite good, and the casing is well constructed. It is an excellent value at going prices.

Don't let the pictures fool you; loupes like this one are still ridiculously small (approx. 1" x 1.25" x 1" when closed) and will get lost easily even in your daypack. If you plan on using it regularly in the field, it would be worth the couple extra dollars to purchase this loupe with one of the optional clip-on neck lanyards (sold via Amazon by Amateur Geologist, the US supplier for BelOMO loupes in the US).

Summary: You see it all with this loop!
Comment: I acquired this loop to take a close look at jewelry, artwork, etc. You will no longer be fooled by fakery. Through this BelOMO 10X Triplet Loupe I can see all I need to see up close and personal. It is very clear with a large viewing area. Great for the price I think.

Summary: Excellent value for a Hastings Triplet Magnifier
Comment: This is a superb Hastings Triplet Magnifier. For those of you who are familiar with high quality hand held magnifiers, then you know that a Hastings Triplet lens is the best type. Certainly it is much better than a single lens magnifier, a doublet lens magnifier or a Coddington magnifier. This BelOMO 10 power magnifier has achromatic (i.e., color corrected) optical glass triple lenses for minimal distortion. It is especially well constructed. The lens swivels back into its protective metal shell when not in use. The lens has a generously wide 19mm field of view. It is great for examining up close such specimens as diamonds, gems, precious coins, stamps, rocks, minute parts etc. Stop using cheap, low quality magnifiers. Move up in quality. Show your expertise by using the best instrument. This Hastings Triplet 10x magnifier will allow you to do see in much better detail than ever before at an affordable price.

Be sure to shop around for the best price. This same instrument can be purchased as low as around $30 from BelOMO 10x Triplet Loupe Magnifier with attached www.AmateurGeologist.com Logo Lanyard. It comes with a handy neck lanyard with quick detach buckle for field work. This way, you will not lose your favorite magnifier.

Summary: Hard to beat as a "walk around" magnifier
Comment: Compared to the 20x loupes, the BelOMO is sharper, sharper at the edges, and easier to navigate and focus. Compared to other loupes I've used, like the best 7x loupe I've found, the BelOMO is obviously better optically, very high wow factor. In other words, my usual experience is that one typically sacrifices some aspect of optical quality to get more magnification. The BelOMO delivers increased magnification while improving most aspects of optical quality. Although the viewable area decreases proportionately at 10x, because of the higher image quality at the edges, the "subjective" viewable area appears to be about the same as my 7x.
