The brush is real badger: soft and firm. Just the brush is worth the price of admission if you're into this kind of shaving.
The pre-shave oil makes it easier for the cream to stick to your face; use it! Put it on, then get to work setting up the cream and your basin of hot water.
The cream itself smells nice and using the brush you only need 1cm or so of cream to get enough foam. There are some tutorials about this on YouTube. I'm new and found them handy.
The after-shave balm leaves your face nice and soft, with a light lavender scent. I imagine the other flavors are subtle as well. Customer Rating: Summary: art of shaving kit and book Comment: my son liked the kit but said the book was not necessary to use the kit correctly (oh, well!)

Comment: I purchased this pack when I wanted to learn how to shave with a straight razor, I still can't shave with a straight razor but I'm glad that I have tried because now I use these products. I use all of them in conjuction so I can't really speak for the products individually but this combo does provide me with the best and most soothing shave I've been able do on my own. I noticed a more clean and even shave which probably added a day or two between shaves and my face and stubble are notably softer.
