Customer Rating: Summary: Great Customer Service from Canon Comment: Canon PowerShot SX100IS 8MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)
I previously owned a Canon Powershot S3 and loved it, however it was a bit too big and I wanted more mega pixels so I upgraded to a Powershot SX100. The camera is great and fairly easy to use. The optics in the zoom however are not quite as good as the S3. Pictures seem a bit fuzzy when zoomed in, especially in low light conditions. Also, it's not easy to shot good pictures at night or in the dark. I had better success with the S3 at adjusting the exposure settings to shot clear and well balanced pictures at night.
What I really like about the SX100 is the variety of shooting modes. The fireworks mode works fairly well. The aquarium mode is awesome and the foliage mode produces very vibrant pictures of vegetation. The face detection features also works very well.
The best thing about Canon cameras are their reliability. Several weeks ago I placed the camera on top of my car and drove off, forgetting about the camera on the roof. When I got the speed of the car up to 50 mph the camera finally fell off and hit the pavement. When I retrieved the camera from the street it was scratched and dented in several places, however amazingly it still worked. I sent the camera back to Canon to have them check it out to make sure that everything was ok with it. Since it was within the one-year warranty period, they replaced the body on the camera and adjusted the optics FREE OF CHARGE. When I got the camera back from Canon it looked like a new camera. I am very pleased and happy with the service received from Canon. I plan to buy a new Canon Powershot SX10 and will keep the SX100 for family photos.
Attention - see my hot air balloon photos taken with this camera after it was returned from Canon.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Camera Comment: This is a great point and shoot camera with that extra zoom that makes it more versatile than most point and shoots. Cannon products have been pretty reliable for me so far.
Customer Rating: Summary: Price Warning Comment: I bought this camera in January and am very happy with it. I wasn't into photography before but I had to take a still photo class and this was perfect for what I needed. I don't think it's professional quality but it is definitely a step up from any point-and-shoot I've ever used before. I do agree with other reviews that state it has a lot of "noise" at high ISOs but it's still better compared to what I've seen on my older Fuji and Samsung digital cameras.
HOWEVER, I bought this from Amazon in January for $225. I have no idea why it is now almost $700! This is not worth that much money. Please check your prices before you decide to buy this camera! You could probably get one with more megapixels and/or longer zoom for half the price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic camera! Comment: I've had some cheap, not-so-great cameras in the past, then when I decided I really needed a quality product I bought this one. I couldn't be more pleased! The picture quality is really astounding. Even the video quality is beyond my expectations. There's so many settings it's almost overwhelming! But after reading the manual back and forth I finally understood all the amazing features (mostly, haha). My Dad has this camera too and he's not the technical type person to read manuals or change settings, so even he is able to take great pictures on auto mode.
The only con is that the batteries get sucked up like you wouldn't believe. But I recently ordered the Canon ACK-800 AC Adapter, which should charge the camera to avoid that.
Overall, I'm VERY pleased with my purchase and I would recommend it to anyone!
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Camera Comment: A nice performing camera with a good zoom range. Could go a little wider, but the long end is great. Image quality is good.
If it were my primary camera, I would miss an optical viewfinder, but I'm mostly using this on a gigapan mount, and it does a nice job for that.
