Customer Rating: Summary: It's good but... I wish I had known Comment: Okay... 21 PPM for color and b/w sounds great but it would have been nice to know...
Caller ID doesn't work on a phone plugged into this fax machine. So if you like your Caller ID then you are plugging into another jack to know when Aunt Sally is calling and that you will be stuck on the phone for an hour if you answer it. Or you could get a Brother machine that has a handset.
There are a limited number of signal ring patterns that work with this machine. And changing the ring pattern isn't so hard for the telephone company once you spend 30 minutes on hold and get forwarded 5 places before you find the person that can do it.
If you don't have a couple of days to get this machine integrated into your home or office there are easier options out there.
Happy hunting.
Customer Rating: Summary: brother multi Comment: I bought this item and had brother come and fix it. After 6 months of use it broke down more than it worked.
amazon.com was great. they picked up the printer and refunded the money.
I would always shop with amazon.com
brother does not do a good job with customer service
Customer Rating: Summary: 9840 Comment: I bought this machine at work for my job. Now that I have used it at work and print about 50 pages per day and liked it so well, I bought one for me. To use at home. I just got tired of printers that clog up and will not print if you don't use them for a month or so, Or the date on the ink runs out and you have to buy a new ink even if the ink is still full. Yes the company paid for the company printer. I paid for mine, and love it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Brother MFC-9840cdw review Comment: So far, I am impressed with the Brother MFC-9840cdw; however, when copying some documents, the color copies were a different shade or hue than the originals. Also, when I asked a salesman here that sold the same Brother MFC about how often we'd have to replace the drum, he advised me that the drums were good for at least 30,000 pages. When I received the machine, I saw in the manual that replacing the drum is required every 17,000 pages. There are other parts that need replacing on frequent intervals, which makes maintenance on the Brother fairly expensive.
On the plus side, the wireless network function works great, and for the most part, the color copies are pretty decent. The speed is sufficient for my needs. I haven't had time to fiddle much with the software, so I can't comment on that. The envelopes do tend to curl a bit, even after making the adjustment recommended by support.
Overall, I'm pleased with it, but if I had to do it over again, I would look for a multi-function machine that didn't require the expensive maintenance.
Customer Rating: Summary: works good Comment: this is my first purchase of a laser printer. I checked out others and was impressed with the speed and functions. Doing envelopes is not the greatest but post cards are good. We do wireless in our office as a few of us are using the printer. That was pretty easy to do.
